The School of Economics and Finance, in conjunction with The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) and Georgetown University in Washington D.C., is again offering a 3-week academic programme at the University of Hong Kong this summer, July 29 - August 20, 2005. The Asia Institute for Political Economy 2005 aims to attract 60 of Asia and America's most outstanding university students to study the principles of free market economics and political concepts such as the rule of law. Students will be chosen based on their English proficiency, academic strengths, essay-writing ability and interview performance. Successful students shall be awarded a Graduation Certificate as well as 3 semester hours of academic credit from Georgetown University.

In the summers of 2004 and 2002, in addition to students from our host institution here at HKU, we successfully recruited altogether 46 students each year from top regional universities in China, Japan, Singapore, Korea, Tajikistan, as well as from colleges in the United States. This summer programme shall prove to be a golden opportunity and enriching experience for the energetic and serious participant. Selected students will reside together in a residence hall next to the main campus. For photos and further details on admissions, please go to: www.econ.hku.hk or www.tfasinternational.org/aipe/about. Please note that scholarships/tuition waivers are available to HKU students on a competitive basis. The deadline for local students for AIPE 2005 is Tuesday, March 15th, 2005.

An information session for this youth leadership programme shall be held next Friday, February 18, 2005, from 5 - 6 p.m. in Room KKLG102, K.K. Leung Building. Color brochures of the AIPE 2005 as well as the Georgetown 2005 summer institutes shall be distributed to those who attend. Several HKU graduates from AIPE 2004 and Georgetown 2004 summer institutes, together with Dr. Timothy D.
