Asia Institute for Political Economy (AIPE) summer academic programme at HKU, July 11 to August 2, 2008

Dear Student,

The HKU School of Economics and Finance, in conjunction with The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) and Georgetown University in Washington D.C., is offering a 3-week international academic programme “Asia Institute for Political Economy (AIPE) 2008” at HKU this summer, July 11 to August 2, 2008.

The programme aims to attract 60 of Asia and America’s most outstanding university students to investigate the principles of free market economics and political concepts. It includes regular lectures on political economy and American studies, guest lectures, and social and cultural activities. AIPE students will stay at HKU’s residential hall together during the programme period. Programme brochures can be obtained at our School office (KKL908). AIPE is an unparalleled opportunity for students to:

  • gain international and multicultural learning experiences through interacting and learning from more than 60 students from a wide range of nationalities (past participants came from 18 countries/regions in Asia, North America and Europe);
  • broaden their horizons academically, culturally and socially;
  • establish lifelong and cross-cultural friendships with international friends; and
  • obtain 3 academic credits from Georgetown University (transferable to 6 HKU credits at undergraduate level).

Our School and TFAS will jointly award full scholarship to HKU students (in regular full-time programmes) admitted to AIPE and exempt them from the payment of programme fee, meal and hall charges.

AIPE is designed for undergraduate students who have a strong analytical mind, a broad international outlook and appreciation of cultural diversity. You are now invited to apply for AIPE 2008! Information Session

An information session will be held on Friday, February 15, 2008, from 5 - 6 p.m. at LE6, Library Extension. Several HKU students who participated in the programme last summer will give a brief presentation and answer questions from students.
