History of this conference

Professor Mike Lenox hosted the inaugural annual conference in 2010 during his tenure as the executive director of the Batten Institute at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. That first event attracted scholars from all over the world and featured a scholarly debate between Jay Barney and Sid Winter.

As the conference grew in popularity, Darden partnered with the Academy of Management in hosting the 2012 event, which enabled the program to be streamed live to every continent. After that successful event, the Cambridge Judge Business School joined in 2013 as a co-sponsor alongside Darden. Professors Jeremy Hutchison-Krupat from Darden and Professor Stelios Kavadias from the Cambridge Judge took on the role of co-chairs while the event shifted location between the United Kingdom and the United States.

In 2017, University of Hong Kong (HKU) joined Darden and Cambridge Judge as an official co-sponsor and will host the 2018 event. Dr. Po-Hsuan Hsu joined the conference committee as the newest co-chair.
